I spoke with a friend a few weeks ago and she told me how lucky I was to realize the gravity of life and make the choice to find meaning at such a young age (35). I’ve been thinking about her comment, especially as I’ve thought about those who lost their lives suddenly in the latest plane crashes. There is power to living your life as if you could die tomorrow.
I read a quote recently that caught my attention and keeps coming back to me.
“Someone once told me the definition of Hell: The last day you have on earth, the person you became will meet the person you could have become.” — Anonymous
It resonates because I believe that we are all born with unique traits, skills, and abilities to serve a purpose greater than ourselves. The things we go through in life that cut us to pieces, those are the very traumatic events that give us the unique ability to heal the exact pain in others.
I’ve realized connecting with an adult or child to spark hope and empower them to rise above their circumstances is my life’s mission.
What if all the religions are correct. What if our call to action in life is to love - others and ourselves. What if the very thing we think will save us (money, power, “success”) are the very idols that keep us from our vocation, our true calling?
What if we all focused on serving others, taking care of others, loving others, like we wished in return?
What kind of world would this be if we always focused on looking out for the vulnerable and the exploited? Offering protection, instead of keeping “them” hidden from view or putting up walls?
“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven”.
The value of a broken heart, of empathy, is priceless. When we are able to share in the pain with our brothers and sisters, we understand them, we are one with them, and we can’t just walk away. We passionately unite and do what has to be done in order to lift them up.
I’ve been thinking about the idea of finding Heaven on Earth…because the greatest, deepest joy I’ve ever received is through serving another. Serving facilitates my Soul connecting with another’s Soul. Feeling their pain and sharing in their joy. Joining in the flow of Love.
I am driven to plant a seed in your heart - find your calling. Live your life as if it is on loan, and every moment counts. Our shared reality is this: our physical bodies are all going to break down and perish. Death is approaching. I say this to fuel a sense of urgency in finding meaning NOW!
If you are looking for your purpose, examine what breaks your heart. When you heal others, you are healing yourself. You receive the greatest gift, the ultimate power of Love.
